It's OK if the front and back jacks are not exactly on the ground as long as their close. If I'm doing long logs, I'll jam a small wedge or piece of wood under the jack base.

Logs are inherently dirty from the cutting and transportation process to the mill. I don't like spending hours cleaning logs just so I can mill them.
